In a bold new endeavour, Wanderlust Ghana, an intrepid group of fun-loving adventurers and thrill-seekers, has set out to conquer a daring 30,000-kilometre journey across 30 countries in just three months. This ambitious overland trek will span multiple continents, showcasing not only their adventurous spirit but also Ghana’s unique culture and heritage along the way.

This latest expedition follows Wanderlust Ghana’s remarkable achievement last year, when they successfully completed a 10,000km road trip from Accra to London in August, gaining international attention. The challenge captivated the world’s imagination and marked them as heroes in the realm of road travel adventures.

Yesterday, the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) hosted a colourful send-off ceremony at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park in Accra to officially launch the group’s latest odyssey. The event was attended by notable figures from the travel and tourism community, both public and private, along with sponsors and the media, all gathered to witness the launch of this extraordinary adventure.

CEO of Ghana Tourism Authority, Akwasi Agyeman

Akwasi Agyeman, CEO of the GTA, enthusiastically lauded Wanderlust Ghana’s bold undertaking, calling the journey ‘crazy’, but in the best possible way. “These are the individuals embarking on this crazy journey. I call it crazy because only people with such adventurous spirits can undertake it,” he said, highlighting the audacity and determination of the team.

Mr. Agyeman further elaborated on the importance of the trip for Ghana’s global standing, stating that the expedition would benefit the country in several ways. “This journey will position Ghana very well within the countries they are going through. The media mileage and the soft power gained from showcasing our cultural diversity and heritage is invaluable. Ghana is the centre of the world, and they get to display that to millions,” he remarked.

The CEO also emphasised the positive impact such an expedition could have on tourism in Ghana, particularly with the upcoming “December in GH” event. “We hope to see more tourists visiting Ghana. The media coverage from all over the world will showcase Ghana’s culture and heritage,” Mr. Agyeman added, expressing his hope for increased international engagement.

Leader of Wanderlust Ghana, Kwabena Peprah, expressed deep gratitude for the support received from the GTA and other partners who made the trip possible. Reflecting on the group’s journey so far, he shared how it all started as a simple passion for exploration. “Our first 10,000km trip from Accra to the United Kingdom wasn’t for publicity or fame; we simply enjoyed the idea of exploring different parts of the world,” he said.

Unlike their previous expedition, where vehicles were shipped back to Ghana from London, this time, the Wanderlust crew will complete the entire 30,000km journey by road, returning to Accra in a remarkable round trip. This feature alone sets this journey apart, adding a new layer of adventure and endurance to their audacious mission.

Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mark Okraku-Mantey while applauding the group urged the gathering to take a cue in promoting Ghana’s tourism in their own respective ways.

Their route will take them from Accra through a fascinating array of countries including Côte d’Ivoire, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Spain, France, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Serbia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Namibia, Angola, DRC, Congo, Cameroon, Nigeria, Benin, Togo, and back to Ghana’s capital.

Adding even more excitement, a group of tour operators known as G10 has curated special tour packages allowing the general public to meet up with the Wanderlust Ghana team in two iconic destinations: Dubai and Cape Town. This initiative gives adventure enthusiasts the chance to join the team for parts of the journey, making the expedition even more inclusive and unforgettable.
