The Namibia Tourism Board (NTB) has announced the launch of the Visa-on-Arrival initiative, a new travel facilitation program aimed at streamlining and enhancing the travel experience for international tourists. The initiative, developed by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security and launched on Monday 3rd March will come into effect on 1st April 2025.
This initiative is designed to simplify the visa application process for travellers, ensuring a smoother, more efficient entry for international tourists visiting Namibia. It is in line with the country’s commitment to improving tourism infrastructure and providing an easier and more accessible travel experience. The new policy is expected to have a significant positive impact on international arrivals.
As part of this new initiative, the Ministry of Home Affairs Immigration, Safety, and Security (MHAISS) has developed an E-visa system along with a Visa-on-Arrival application form. This user-friendly online system will allow international tourists to apply for their visa before arrival, reducing wait times and administrative bottlenecks while also making the entry process at Namibia’s borders much more seamless.
The launch of this system is expected to further enhance Namibia’s reputation as a top travel destination in Southern Africa. “The changes to visa policies have a direct impact on the tourism sector,” said the Minister of MHAISS. “Following the Cabinet’s decision, we have taken careful steps to ensure the seamless implementation of these changes, with the aim of avoiding any negative consequences for the tourism industry. I am excited to announce that, as of today, tourists from countries where Namibia does not have diplomatic representation will no longer be required to apply for a visa in advance. They will now be able to obtain a visa on arrival, which will significantly ease the process for visitors from countries where establishing diplomatic missions is difficult.”
The Namibia Tourism Board fully supports this initiative and embraces it wholeheartedly. We encourage all travellers to approach the new visa regime with an open and positive mindset. This initiative, with Namibia’s ongoing efforts to promote tourism, improve international accessibility, and provide a high standard of service to visitors.
We believe this initiative will bolster Namibia’s tourism industry and contribute to the growth of our economy by attracting more international visitors, promoting cultural exchange, and highlighting Namibia as a leading destination for adventure, nature, and luxury tourism.
