The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), in collaboration with Hooked-On-Entertainment has officially welcomed internationally acclaimed Indian travel influencer and ‘motographer,’ Sundeep Gajjar, to Ghana for a four-day immersive tour of the country’s cultural and historical landmarks.

The visit, which spans from May 7 to 10, 2025, is part of a strategic tourism promotion drive aligned with the government’s flagship initiative, the Black Star Experience. It seeks to leverage the digital influence of globally recognized content creators to spotlight Ghana’s diverse tourism offerings.

With his signature blend of motorcycle adventure and visual storytelling, Mr. Gajjar’s journey spans Accra, Cape Coast, and Aburi — with stops at some of Ghana’s most treasured cultural and historic sites including the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, Elmina Castle, the W.E.B. Du Bois Centre, Kakum National Park, and the serene Aburi Botanical Gardens.

At a press briefing in Accra on May 8, Deputy Director of Corporate Affairs at the GTA, Mr. Kofi Atta Kakra Kusi — speaking on behalf of the Authority’s CEO, Mrs. Maame Efua Houadjeto — called the collaboration “a strategic move to promote Ghana as a leading tourism destination,” stressing that “Mr. Gajjar’s massive online influence will amplify Ghana’s visibility in the global travel community.”

And that influence is not to be underestimated. With millions of followers across YouTube and Instagram, Mr. Gajjar’s content weaves culture, scenery and local stories into compelling narratives that resonate with global audiences. But beyond the cameras and content, his emotional connection to Africa was evident.

“I feel at home when I am in Africa, and I want to do all the countries in Africa,” he shared. “There is a lot of warmth, a lot of connection, a lot of colour — in the people, in the clothes, in the culture. It reminds me so much of India.”

Drawing parallels between India and Ghana’s post-colonial histories, he reflected, “India was like the big brother to Ghana when you got your independence. We have a deep appreciation of the freedom we have — the freedom to write, to express ourselves, even in how we wear our hair. This is something I really admire about Africa.”

Motorcycles, especially TVS bikes, are at the heart of his travel adventures. “In India, TVS is more than a motorcycle. It’s like a family member,” he said. “And I see the same thing happening here. I just came from Sierra Leone, where 95% of people are either earning through TVS or enjoying riding them.”

He also had a piece of marketing advice for Ghana. “India is one of the biggest exporters of tourists in the world. We’re 1.3 billion people — if even 1% travels, that’s still massive. What you see is what you get — you’ve got to flaunt it. I searched for an hour looking for shea butter yesterday. It’s sold as a luxury product in India, and it comes from Ghana!”

At the heart of Mr. Gajjar’s work is a deep passion for storytelling. “I’m a visual artist and photographer at heart,” he explained. “For 22 years, I’ve travelled the world to capture the soul of a place. That’s what I hope to do here — to show the world Ghana through my eyes.”

Former Ghanaian High Commissioner to India and current board member of the Ghana-India Trade Advisory Chamber (GITAC), Mr. Mike Oquaye Jr., applauded the visit as a form of “creative diplomacy.” He said, “Traditional diplomacy is not always about foreign affairs. It’s about cultural exchanges and people-to-people connections. And what better way to do that than with motorbikes? They excite young people — and some of us older ones too!”

He praised both Mr. Gajjar and TVS representatives for “binding two great cultures together — from India to Africa and then to Ghana,” and encouraged the motorcycle giant to deepen its investment in Ghana. “We want you to see Ghana not just as a market but as a production base for the entire continent. Bring one of your factories here — create jobs, develop our technical youth, and deepen our bonds.”

Mr. Oquaye even floated a fun idea: “Our President is an avid rider. Let’s get him one of those TVS Apache bikes — I’m sure he’d love it.”

Brand Strategist of Hooked-On-Entertainment, Ms. Daria Hookfin, and CEO of Arash Motors TVS Ltd, Mr. Dharamveer Singh Shekhawat, were also present to lend their support to the initiative, highlighting the power of partnerships in reimagining destination marketing.

Mr. Kusi underscored how initiatives like this align with the broader goals of the Black Star Experience — launched by former President John Dramani Mahama — to position Ghana as the cultural capital of Africa. “It’s about national pride. It’s about inviting the world to come and experience the soul of Ghana — in our music, food, fashion, history, and everyday life,” he said.

Ghana’s celebrated biker, M Meek Mill will join Gajjar as he explores the country and offers the world a front-row seat to Ghana’s unmatched beauty and warmth.
