Botswana has earned prestigious international recognition at the PATWA International Travel Awards held on the margins of ITB Berlin, one of the world’s leading travel trade exhibitions.

The Republic of Botswana was honoured with the award for Destination of the Year – Thrilling Experiences, affirming the country’s position as one of the world’s premier destinations for authentic, high-impact safari and wilderness tourism.

In addition, the Honourable Minister of Environment and Tourism, Boipuso Wynter Mmolotsi, received the exclusive excellence in governance accolade of “Tourism Minister of the Year – Nature Conservation.

The awards were presented at the esteemed PATWA International Travel Awards ceremony, organised by the Pacific Area Travel Writers Association (PATWA), a global professional body that recognises excellence and outstanding contributions within the travel and tourism industry.

Receiving the awards, Minister Mmolotsi reaffirmed Botswana’s dedication to sustainable tourism development, conservation-led growth, and community empowerment.

Botswana’s tourism model, renowned for its high-value, low-volume approach, has positioned the country as a global leader in sustainable travel. From pristine wilderness landscapes to  diversewildlife ecosystems, Botswana continues to attract discerning travellers seeking authentic and responsible tourism experiences.

The dual recognition of both destination excellence and ministerial leadership highlights the strong alignment between policy direction and industry performance. It also signals growing international confidence in Botswana’s governance framework for environmental stewardship and sustainable tourism management.

PATWA’s recognition at ITB Berlin provides a significant platform to showcase Botswana’s tourism offerings to global buyers, investors, media, and industry leaders gathered in Berlin.

As Botswana continues to strengthen international partnerships and expand its tourism  footprint, these accolades reaffirm the country’s standing as a leading destination for thrilling, conservation-driven travel experiences.
