Few African destinations have attracted as much attention from the international tourism and investment community in recent months as Angola.

This week, that attention will converge on Luanda as government leaders, investors, tourism executives, financiers, aviation stakeholders and development partners gather for the Global Tourism Forum Investment Summit 2026, one of the largest investment-focused tourism events on the continent’s calendar.

More than 500 delegates from over 60 countries and upwards of 100 speakers are expected to participate in the three-day summit, placing Angola at the centre of discussions about where capital is flowing, which destinations are attracting investor interest and what is required to unlock the next phase of tourism growth across Africa.

Organized by the World Tourism Forum Institute (WTFI) in partnership with the Government of Angola and supported by the Ministry of Tourism, the summit is being held under the patronage of President João Lourenço. Convened under the theme “Investment and Development in Angola” and the slogan “Make It Grow Together!”, the gathering reflects Angola’s growing focus on tourism, investment and economic diversification. Long known primarily as one of Africa’s major oil producers, the country is increasingly drawing attention to sectors beyond hydrocarbons, with tourism emerging as an area of growing interest among investors, developers and policymakers.

The gathering comes at a moment when tourism investment has become one of the most important conversations shaping the future of the sector. Across the continent, governments are increasingly recognizing that visitor growth alone is not enough. Airports, hotels, transport systems, attractions, tourism services and digital infrastructure all require long-term investment if destinations are to compete effectively in a rapidly evolving global marketplace.

It is within this context that Angola will host the summit, bringing together public and private sector leaders to examine opportunities across tourism, aviation, hospitality, infrastructure, technology, real estate and finance.

A major feature of the event will be the Angola Tourism Investment Expo, where provinces, private companies and investment agencies will present tourism assets and projects seeking investment. From hospitality developments and ecotourism ventures to aviation services and cultural tourism enterprises, the exhibition is expected to offer delegates a closer look at opportunities across different regions of the country.

Participants can expect a programme that combines high-level dialogue with practical business engagement. The opening day will feature official welcomes, investment outlook sessions, ministerial discussions, CEO roundtables, investor meetings and an Angola Investment Showcase. Business-to-business meetings and networking engagements will run throughout the event, complemented by cultural activities designed to introduce delegates to the country’s heritage and contemporary creative scene.

The second day will continue with plenary discussions, ministerial roundtables, sessions involving regional governors and mayors, and additional investor engagements. The final day will focus on outcomes, future opportunities and the next steps emerging from conversations and partnerships established during the summit.

Participants are expected to include sovereign wealth funds, institutional investors, development finance institutions, tourism authorities, hotel groups, aviation executives, infrastructure developers and technology firms, reflecting the increasingly interconnected nature of tourism development.

Aviation is expected to feature prominently throughout the discussions. As African destinations continue to pursue stronger intra-African and international connectivity, access by air remains one of the most decisive factors influencing tourism growth, investment attraction and market competitiveness.

For Angola, the summit offers an opportunity to tell a broader story about the country’s economic future.

Long associated with oil production, Angola is increasingly seeking to showcase the depth of opportunities across tourism, aviation, infrastructure, culture and hospitality. The summit provides a platform to present that story directly to investors, development partners and global business leaders.

The country has spent recent years raising its profile in international tourism circles through increased participation at major travel trade events, efforts to improve connectivity, and initiatives aimed at attracting investment into tourism and related sectors. The summit offers an opportunity to bring those efforts together before a global audience of decision-makers.

The Global Tourism Forum Investment Summit offers a platform for investors to assess opportunities, for destinations to showcase projects and for policymakers to examine how tourism can contribute to economic diversification, employment creation and sustainable growth.

As delegates prepare to convene in Luanda, the focus will not simply be on investment trends or market forecasts. The real conversation will centre on how Africa can attract the capital required to transform tourism potential into measurable economic value for destinations and communities alike.
