Ghana is set to begin construction of a new convention centre in Accra, with President John Dramani Mahama expected to cut the sod for the project in the coming weeks.
Minister of Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu disclosed the development in a post on X, describing the facility as the latest investment by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).

The proposed Accra Convention Centre will be located at the Trade Fair Centre and cover approximately 81,422 square metres. According to the minister, the facility will feature a 3,000-seat main conference hall, a Presidential Hall designed for high-level meetings, four large auditoriums and other modern amenities.
The development is expected to expand Ghana’s capacity to host major international conferences, conventions and other large-scale events in Accra.
The new facility would add to Ghana’s existing meetings and events infrastructure and could strengthen the country’s position as a destination for business and conference tourism.
Details on the project’s construction timeline, cost and expected completion date were not included in the minister’s announcement.

The announcement comes as Ghana continues to position Accra as a hub for international events, with the country regularly hosting regional and global conferences that attract delegates from across Africa and beyond.
