UNWTO and UEMOA to hold workshop on tourism and security

The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in partnership with West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) will in December 12-14 hold a workshop on tourism and security.

The event which takes place in Dakar, Senegal will look at how UEMOA countries can strengthen their national security policies to improve the safety of tourists. Discussions will feature areas such as air transport, communication and crisis management, travel advice and security.

This forum is as a result of pressing request from UNWTO’s members in West Africa affected by security challenges. The program will be extended to other members of the region from next year.

The West African Monetary and Economic Union (also known under the French acronym, UEMOA) comprises membership of 8 French speaking countries in West Africa who also use the CFA Franc in common The Member States are Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Mali, Guinea Bissau, Niger, Senegal and Togo.

The delegation will also pay a technical visit to the new Blaise Diagne Airport
