The PrideInn Group of Hotels has opened a wellness facility at Paradise Beach Resort in Mombasa, to tap into the international wellness tourism sector and travellers visiting the country for meetings, incentives, conferences and events (MICE).

The spa offers a number of facilities, including a gym, spa, meditation and yoga. There is state-of-the-art Techno Gym equipment, a large selection of free weights and accessories, cardiovascular machines such as treadmills, cycles, experienced personal trainers, a steam room, sauna, and a heated pool.

Managing Director of PrideInn Group of Hotels, Hasnain Noorani, said the influence of wellness had become a new reality due to long working hours, and the increase in unusual work schedules such as night or weekend work.

Noorani added that PrideInn was targeting overseas tourists and conference visitors who needed to relax after long flights and busy days in meetings. He continued that wellness was taking over from cuisine as a drawcard, as travellers sought out healthier and more active vacations.

According to the 2018 Global Wellness Tourism Economy report, international wellness tourists spent $1 528 per trip – 53% more than the typical international tourist – prompting hotels in Kenya to capture a share of this tourism sector.
