Asa Baako festival, Ghana’s premiere Independence Day holiday event came off from 6 – 10 March in Busua and Takoradi in the Western Region of Ghana.

This year’s diverse themes focused on promoting sounds from Ghana and all over the continent while directly supporting the growth of musicians in the Western region.

After gaining roots among the Ghanaian folk and recognition from international media and festival goers, Asa Baako – One Dance is growing steadily every year and promoting local artists, celebrating culture and supporting the local environment along with it.

Asa Baako is dedicated to hosting established artists alongside local emergent talent and are proud that many of them have grown to become some of Ghana’s most celebrated artists. Talent previously featured at include; Kofi Kinaata, E.L., M.anifest, Yaa Pono, Reggie Rockstone, Sena, FoKN Bois (M3nsa and Wanlov), Lawmaker and Efya. Asa Baako also prides itself for being a platform for Africa’s artistic expression and past artists we have featured include; Villy & The Xtreme Volumes (Nigeria), Veronny (Nigeria), Arc Djebe (Togo) and Zepekenio (Ivory Coast).

Another exciting factor about this year’s festival was the AFRoShiNE hub, an artist residency space for musicians to collaborate, which help bridge the gap, foster collaborations and allowed for the international and local music industry players present to network.

The ultimate independence holiday getaway featured a programme of live music, sound systems, beach parties, open-mics, wellness, boat-trips, treks, tours, surfing, beach football and volleyball and the legendary Jungle Party.

Asa Baako attracted over 5,000 revellers over the festival period, and this number is made up of enthusiastic festival goers from across the Western region, Cape Coast, Accra, neighboring Côte d’ivoire and overseas.

Yemisi Mokuolu, Co-Producer for the festival reiterated the importance of being part of this unforgettable beach experience. She added “Asa Baako is a place where people can experience a rare international gathering supporting local artists and enjoy a unique sound-plate of African music. ”
