The Uganda Wildlife Authority has announced that the tariff for gorilla tracking in the two parks, Mgahinga and Bwindi, will be raised from US Dollars 600 at present to US Dollars 700 next year as of the 01st of July.

Tariff increases for park entrance and activity fees will be published here also in due course. The increase of just 100 US Dollars, in sharp contrast to the fees at a neighbouring country which charges even citizens of that country US Dollars 1.500 per person, has been widely hailed as a brilliant move to keep demand for gorilla tracking in Uganda at peak levels, taking advantage of the much lower rates, offsetting the longer period of time needed to access both Bwindi and Mgahinga by road, though daily flights are available from the Entebbe to the Savannah airfield in Kihihi and to Kisoro.

Uganda is home to some 15 species of primates and besides the most popular mountain gorillas is tracking of chimpanzees another highly sought after activity for visitors coming to the Pearl of Africa. Mgahinga National Park also has a population of Golden Monkeys which can also be tracked.

The country’s 10 national parks has been attracting record numbers of visitors in 2018 and further increases are anticipated for 2019 with the first half of the year already recording many more visitors to the country compared to the first half of 2018.
