Rwanda’s capital city of Kigali is set to host Africa Tourism Leadership Forum (ATLF) and Awards, 2020 from 13 to 15 July at the Kigali Convention Centre.

The theme for this year’s gathering is ‘Shaping a better future for intra-Africa travel together.’

The Forum is expected to bring together over 500 industry leaders from across Africa and beyond. Building on its remarkable success in the past three years, the Forum aims to boost the efforts of industry leaders in transforming intra-Africa travel. This is in accordance with the outcomes of ATLF Accra, Ghana and Durban, South Africa in 2018 and 2019 respectively.

Organised by Africa Tourism Partners, in partnership with BDO South Africa, ATLF and Awards is the largest Africa travel and tourism thought leadership, multi-stakeholder, multi-disciplinary, and collaborative platform that looks at accelerating the continent’s tourism growth by setting realistic goals that are attainable and actionable.

It affords attendees the opportunity to exploit new opportunities that benefit all stakeholders and the continent at large. The Forum has also become a main driver behind the call-to-action for increased intra-Africa travel, modernising visa policies, and increasing air access for the greater benefit of ‘Destination Africa’.

Among the focus áreas identified for deliberations are Thought Leadership, travel technology and innovation; transformation of intra-Africa travel; destination marketing and showcases; MICE/business events strategies; African aviation routes and airlift; modernisation of visa policies; rural tourism development; start-ups; youth in tourism; and tourism investment funding.

The youth demographic that participated in the 2019 Durban event shows that it has become a platform for African youth in tourism and start-ups to unleash their full potential.

“We are enthused that the event has become a blueprint for actionable collaboration among the continent’s tourism stakeholders and service providers over the past three years,” says Kwakye Donkor, CEO of Africa Tourism Partners.

“Like ATLF 2018 and ATLF 2019 in Accra, Ghana and Durban, South Africa respectively, we wish to urge all industry stakeholders across the continent to make time to join the Kigali Forum, and also submit their entries for the 2020 Africa Tourism Leadership Awards accordingly,” he stressed.

Christelle Grohmann, Director at BDO South Africa, adds: “The Forum is very focused, actioned-oriented and distinctive, as it directly amplifies the voices of captains of industry, professionals, policy-makers and the youth for shared-values and vision”.

In addition to the CEOs/Executives Dialogue, MICE Masterclass, and Youth in Tourism Innovation Summit, this year’s Forum will include a bespoke exhibition for sponsors, partners, and suppliers, thereby providing an additional platform for destinations, suppliers, and brand engagements.
