The Tour Operators Union of Ghana (TOUGHA) is urging the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture designate, Ibrahim Mohammed Awal to as a matter of urgency make the formulation of specific policies that attract investment into the tourism sector a priority when he is officially confirmed as the sector’s minister.

This, according to President of TOUGHA will create more economically viable and sustainable jobs especially rural people in the sector.

Mrs. Alisa Osei-Asamoah was answering questions on the Union’s expectations of the soon to-be-vetted Minister on TV3, an Accra-based network. She believes that critical to the growth and continuity of tourism in Ghana in the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic is effective Public-Private Partnership which should be another focus for the Minister.

Ghana’s tourism sector like many around the world has seen a major dip in both arrivals and receipts as a result of Coronavirus. In a latest round of Covid-19 restrictions, President Akufo-Addo has announced imposition of ban on social activities and events.
Cinemas, beaches, night clubs, theatres, pubs are among some of the places that have also been restricted.

Mrs. Alisa Osei-Asamoah expects the incoming Minister to establish strong collaborations with the private sector to help fashion out programmes and interventions that will keep Ghana’s tourism going in these crucial times.
