The Tour Operators Union of Ghana (TOUGHA) were once again in Durban to participate in this year’s Africa’s Travel Indaba. Over 70 of the Union’s members took part in various activities and events of the three-day tourism expo.

From the pre-Indaba BONDay event to the opening plenary session, B2B, speed marketing and the many industry-focused sessions such as the Media Face-Off with Richard Quest and Women in Tourism, TOUGHA members were present in them all.

President of TOUGHA, Mrs. Alisa Osei-Asamoah who led the team to the trade show maintained in an interview with VoyagesAfriq that, Indaba 2023 had provided a fine platform for doing good business.

“By all account, it has been a wonderful three days of travel and tourism business. There has been good learning opportunities and business leads which would be followed through. Our members have got connections that I have no doubt will inure to the benefit of their businesses. We were particularly impressed by the quality of buyers and exhibitors at Indaba this year, which was a much significant improvement from last year,” she emphasised.

The President also disclosed that TOUGHA will participate in subsequent editions of Travel Indaba to maximise the many advantages the trade show offers.

She averred: “I have no doubt that Africa’s Travel Indaba will continue to be the go-to marketplace for our members for many years to come. From the organisation and the execution and the participants and the sessions, I believe it’s only right that we keep coming to optimise business linkages and leverage the platform the event offers to learn, connect and share ideas with the travel and tourism industry from elsewhere in Africa and the world.”

TOUGHA in recent years, has enjoyed close working relationship with the West Africa office of South African Tourism (SAT) who were instrumental in facilitating the Union’s participation at Indaba 2023.

Mrs. Osei Asamoah said, she is optimistic the collaboration between SAT and TOUGHA would be further strengthened.

“We are so thankful to South African Tourism for their continuous support towards our participation and I look forward to forging stronger partnership with them as we continue to explore avenues to advance the intra-Africa travel agenda,” she stressed.

Prior to be in Durban for Africa’s Travel Indaba, TOUGHA had joined their colleagues from Nigeria for the maiden NANTA-TOUGHA Conference in Johannesburg. The full-day’s conference looked at ways of engendering partnerships to promote seamless, borderless and increased intra-Africa travel. It was hosted by the School of Tourism and Hospitality, University of Johannesburg.
