Information reaching VoyagesAfriq indicates that President John Dramani Mahama has appointed renowned marketing professor, Prof. Kobby Mensah, as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Tourism Development Company (GTDC).

A distinguished faculty member at the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS), Prof. Mensah brings many years of rich experience in tourism marketing, strategic branding, and investment promotion, making him a fitting leader to steer GTDC toward greater relevance and impact.

Prof. Mensah has been a key figure in Ghana’s tourism landscape, consulting on major tourism projects and advising businesses on destination marketing strategies.

One of his most notable contributions is spearheading the Destination Legon Tourism Marketing Exhibition, an innovative initiative that integrates academia with industry practice. This flagship project, which is part of the ‘Tourism Marketing’ course at UGBS, equips students with hands-on experience in branding and promoting destinations, much like products and services.

Level 400, MBA, and MPhil students from the Department of Marketing and Entrepreneurship are tasked with crafting compelling campaigns for various Ghanaian tourist attractions, sharpening their skills in real-world tourism marketing.

His appointment to GTDC is widely regarded as a strategic move to revitalise the institution, which plays a crucial role in attracting investments and promoting tourism as a viable business sector.

Industry stakeholders are optimistic that his blend of academic insight and practical expertise will transform GTDC into a more dynamic force in Ghana’s tourism development to unlock new opportunities, attract global investors and maximixe the country’s tourism potentials.
