President John Mahama has appointed Maame Efua Sekyi-Aidoo Houadjeto as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA). A parliamentary candidate aspirant for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Mfantsiman Constituency for the 2024 general elections, she takes over from Akwasi Agyeman, who resigned earlier this month.

A former Deputy Women’s Organiser of the NDC, Maame Efua will now lead the GTA, the primary agency under the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts responsible for tourism promotion, marketing and quality assurance.

With the new government’s “The Black Star Experience” being touted as a game-changer for the tourism and creative arts sector, Maame Efua is expected to work closely with the sector ministry and other agencies to build on the successes achieved under the previous administration.

Her extensive industry experience includes serving as CEO of Image Consortium, Managing & Creative Director of IE Design, and Acting General Manager of MPlaza Hotel in 2002. She has also demonstrated strong organisational and leadership skills in her role as Deputy National Women’s Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The Authority has played a pivotal role in driving Ghana’s tourism sector, spearheading major initiatives such as the highly successful “Year of Return” and “Beyond the Return” campaigns, which have significantly boosted international arrivals in recent years.
