Ben Ohene-Ayeh, a seasoned tourism professional and former Director of Corporate Affairs at the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), has been appointed as the Chairperson of the newly reconstituted Governing Board of the Ghana Tourism Development Company (GTDC).
With extensive experience in the public sector, Ohene-Ayeh is no stranger to the tourism space. After years at the GTA, he transitioned into local governance, serving as the Municipal Chief Executive for Nsawam Adoagyiri in 2016. Now, he returns to the tourism sector to lead the GTDC Board at a time of significant transformation under the leadership of CEO, Prof. Kobby Mensah.

The new board is expected to provide strategic oversight and direction as GTDC works to fulfil its mandate of promoting tourism investment and cultural development in Ghana.
At the official inauguration ceremony held in Accra, the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, emphasised the importance of the board’s leadership in steering the company toward national development goals.
“Your role as board members is one that comes with a lot of challenges. This is because the survival, or otherwise, of the institution depends on the leadership you provide,” the Minister said, encouraging members to uphold integrity, practice good governance, manage resources effectively, and foster stakeholder collaboration.

In his remarks, Ben Ohene-Ayeh thanked the Minister and President John Mahama for the trust placed in the board.
He assured, “he and his fellow board members would give their utmost to fulfil the mandate entrusted to them.”
The newly inaugurated board includes:
- Ben Ohene-Ayeh (Chairperson)
- Prof. Kobby Mensah

Also in attendance were Directors from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, led by the Chief Director, Mr. Joseph Kwasi Amoah.
The inauguration of the new GTDC board comes at a critical time, as Ghana ramps up efforts to diversify its economy through tourism and cultural heritage. With fresh leadership in place, the board is expected to help drive innovation, attract investment, and support sustainable tourism development across the country.
