The Tourism Investment Forum Africa comes alive at the Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone (RBIDZ) in the City of uMhlathuze, South Africa, from 27–29 August 2025. This flagship event has grown into one of the most influential platforms driving dialogue, partnerships, and investments within Africa’s tourism landscape. Built on the principle of “a global platform for local action,” this year’s edition continues TIFA’s mission of placing secondary and tertiary cities at the centre of Africa’s tourism and investment conversation.
Richards Bay offers a fitting stage. Both a port and an industrial hub, it is also a gateway to coastal tourism assets. Its setting reflects the very ambition TIFA was designed to amplify: aligning economic transformation, community development, and tourism growth.
Over three days, delegates will move through a programme carefully designed around exchange and opportunity. The opening day takes the forum beyond the conference hall with on-site tours of investment-ready projects across the RBIDZ. Running alongside, start-ups and SMEs will showcase their innovations, underscoring how smaller enterprises are shaping Africa’s tourism future. The following two days bring the conversations into a structured conference setting, blending investment presentations with SME exhibits and panel discussions. Sessions will explore the key issues defining Africa’s tourism investment landscape: from infrastructure financing and hospitality ventures to culture, film, destination branding, and the fast-emerging role of technology and artificial intelligence in tourism.
Each of these discussions is built to uncover practical solutions that can unlock Africa’s tourism potential and position the continent as a globally competitive destination. Beyond the conference halls, the Forum creates space for networking, B2B meetings, and investment matchmaking opportunities. By connecting policymakers, development financiers, and the private sector, it aims to foster collaborations that drive long-term impact, create jobs, and enhance Africa’s visibility on the global stage.
Tourism is increasingly recognised as a driver of diversified economies in Africa, yet the challenge remains to channel investment beyond the continent’s traditional hotspots. TIFA’s deliberate focus on secondary and tertiary cities provides a corrective, demonstrating how these regions can become competitive hubs for hospitality, culture, and events.
For investors, TIFA offers direct access to project sponsors, policymakers, financiers, and development institutions. For local governments and entrepreneurs, it offers visibility, partnerships, and practical tools to translate ambitions into bankable projects. And for the tourism sector at large, it frames a vision of growth that is inclusive, regionally balanced, and innovation-driven.
As Africa continues to emerge as a key player in the global tourism market, the Tourism Investment Forum Africa 2025 offers not just dialogue, but action. It is where ideas are transformed into strategies, and strategies into impactful investments that shape the future of the continent’s tourism industry.
