The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority, ZTA has announced plans to introduce the Bulawayo Carnival as part of the 2019 edition of the Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo.
The carnival will showcase Bulawayo’s cultural offering to the world and serve as an avenue to celebrate one of the founding fathers of Zimbabwe, Father Zimbabwe Joshua Nkomo.
The Chief Executive Officer of the ZTA Dr Karigoka Kaseke revealed this during the closing press-briefing at the 11th Sanganai/Hlawanganai World Tourism Expo in Bulawayo.
According to him, the initiative seeks to celebrate rich African culture and thereby preserve the legacy of Joshua Nkomo. He added the decision was instructed by the country’s Vice President in a bid to also grow the local economy and expenditure.
He however dismissed suggestions that the Bulawayo carnival may compete with the Harare International carnival.
