Ghana’s Tourism sector is leaving no stone unturned as it seeks to increase tourism traffic from southern Africa.

This has seen the country’s main tourism agency the Ghana Tourism pursuing aggressive marketing strategies to tap into the regional market.

Speaking to VoyagesAfriq at the just ended 11th Sanganai/Hlanganai World Tourism Expo in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, the Authority’s Deputy Chief Executive in charge of Operations Ekow Sampson said, Ghana is poised to increase marketing campaigns to attract tourists from the African market. He stressed, the participation in regional exhibitions was on its key priorities to give consumers and the travel trade knowledge about the country’s diverse tourism product.

He said ‘’The speed networking session offered us a wonderful platform to engage some international buyers and participants about development and opportunities in Ghana’s tourism sector.’’

He applauded the Zimbabwean Tourism Authority for offering Ghana the opportunity to participate in the Sanganai for the second successive time. This is a step towards African countries coming together to promote as one entity and if you are doing that we need to support each other in marketing tourism.

Nancy Sam who is the president of the Ghanaian Women in Tourism and also the Zimbabwean Tourism ambassador in West Africa said that there is need to tell the Zimbabwean story in a positive perspective.

“… . somebody must positively tell the story of Zimbabwe tourism in the western part of Africa. Most people in west Africa prefer to travel to Europe and the United States and they have to be encouraged to come down here to Southern Africa,” she said.
