Gambian Tourism Officials undergo key training sessions at UNWTO Headquarters

Officials of The Gambia’s tourism sector have embarked on a training session to the headquarters of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in Madrid, Spain from 15-17 April 2019.

The three-day training session visit will afford officials of The Gambia to learn and exchange marketing, plans , tourism strategy, data gathering and market intelligence of the tourism sector.

Destination Management will also be one of the outcomes from the meeting.

The delegation engaging with UNWTO

The Deputy Director of the Africa Region at UNWTO Jaime Mayaki welcomed the delegation and gave an overview of the department’s activities in the Africa region.

The Director General of the Gambia Tourism Board Abdoulie Hydara is the leader of the 12 member delegation is to share The Gambia’s tourism priorities and training objectives with the UNWTO.

The UNWTO’s Chief of Tourism Market Intelligence and Competitiveness Sandra Carvao is expected to give an insight into the major source markets, products and market segmentation. Other key departments of the UN Tourism body are to do similar presentations with the delegation.

The Spanish Tourism Board and the Amadeus are also scheduled to make presentations to the visiting delegation.

Tourism is an important sector in The Gambia. The government is continuing its efforts to broaden the tourism market, improve quality standards, and ensure rational use of the Tourism Development Area.
