Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) and its partners this week launched the much anticipated Limpopo summer campaign at the Shell Filling Station N1 North, Polokwane. The Limpopo Summer Campaign 2020 will headline activities leading to the festive season to promote and drive domestic tourism and Limpopo’s contribution to the tourism trips as well as regain the domestic market. The focus is to showcase Limpopo as a suitable holiday destination for the summer season as well as welcome those Limpopo citizens who may have stayed away in the past 7 months owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.

LTA kick-started the campaign by hosting a group of digital marketing influencers, content creators, journalists and motoring enthusiasts on an exciting outdoor and adventure tour of the Waterberg region from 21 to 23 November 2020. Key tourism attractions visited during the tour include Marakele National Park, Lerato’s Grill House in Bela-Bela township, Waterberg Zip-line Adventures and Ingilozi Park (Exotic Game Drives).

Some of the highlights to drive the campaign in the next two months include the Limpopo Holiday Fair to be hosted jointly with the Limpopo Province Tourism Association (LPTA) and Polokwane Tourism Association (PTA) from 04 to 06 December 2020 at the Savannah Shopping Centre in Polokwane. This will give tourism products an opportunity to exhibit, offer packages ahead of the festive period, majorly influencing last-minute consumer decision making on where to spend holidays.

LTA shall join hands with South African Tourism (SAT) to highlight nine (9) iconic attractions and experiences in Limpopo that will focus on villages, towns and small dorpies in line with the “SummerDifferently” campaign that SAT is spearheading. Limpopo will have an opportunity to host a couple from the North-West province taking them through the iconic attractions from 8 to 14 December 2020. This will culminate in an SMME Workshop to be hosted at the end of the trip in Sekhukhune before the couple is given a Limpopo send-off.

The multi-talented musician MasteKG will join the summer party as he tours the Limpopo Wildlife Resort of Lekgalameetse which is at his home village, Callis in the Mopani Region. He will use the opportunity to meet some of the artists in the Ribola Art Route which cuts between Mopani and Vhembe region. The art route boasts some of the best crafters in the country who are daily inspired to reflect on the societal challenges through their work.

The main message that LTA will carry through the hashtags #MoreToEnjoyThisSummer and #golimpopo. To this end, they have developed a calendar of events that are going to be held in the five regions of Limpopo: Capricorn, Mopani, Sekhukhune, Vhembe and Waterberg over the festive season until the end of February with the hosting of the international golf tournament, the Limpopo Championship. The calendar will be updated regularly on the LTA digital platforms.

“We are saying to all members of different social clubs, those that come from the countries closer to us, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Mozambaque; the provinces in the Republic of South Africa closest to us like Gauteng, North-West and Mpumalanga; Limpopo is back in business, there is more to enjoy in Limpopo,” said Mr. Andrew Dipela, Chairperson of the LTA Board.

Further said Dipela: “This summer campaign is going to be of difference because we have an objective to achieve, to make sure that those who are visiting friends and relatives in the province they should also spend time visiting the different products that this beautiful province is able to offer.”

It is hoped that at the end of the campaign it shall have fostered domestic tourism, encouraged a culture of traveling amongst local,s and showcasing the beautiful Limpopo outdoors and adventure whilst adhering to the Covid-19 health protocols using the hashtag #MoreToEnjoyThisSummer.
