The Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO) has officially announced the cancellation of the much-anticipated Makgadikgadi Epic 2025, citing budgetary constraints and logistical challenges as the primary reasons behind the decision.

Originally slated for 18–20 July in the salt pan town of Sowa, the annual skydiving and adventure tourism spectacle will not take place this year. In a press release issued by BTO, the organisation expressed regret over the cancellation, emphasising the difficulty of the decision after “careful consideration of several logistical challenges, among them being limited funding.”

Despite extensive efforts to secure the resources necessary to uphold the event’s acclaimed standards, BTO acknowledged that current financial limitations made it impossible to deliver the high-quality experience participants and spectators have come to expect from the Makgadikgadi Epic.

“We apologise for the inconvenience this announcement may cause to our partners, the skydiving community, sponsors, stakeholders, and all enthusiasts who were looking forward to this year’s edition,” the statement read. “Your unwavering support and passion for the Makgadikgadi Epic is appreciated.”

The Makgadikgadi Epic has grown to become a signature event in Botswana’s tourism calendar, drawing thrill-seekers, adventurers, and global skydiving professionals to the vast, surreal beauty of the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans. Organisers affirmed their commitment to the event, revealing that planning is already underway for a “bigger and better return in 2026.”

“Makgadikgadi Epic continues to be a hallmark of adventure tourism in Botswana, and we look forward to welcoming you back next year to soar once again over the majestic pans,” the statement continued.

BTO further advised that all individuals who had already made payments for participation, whether for skydiving or tandem jumps, should directly contact the organisation to arrange refunds or transfer their payments toward the 2026 edition.
