The Green Loop Foundation, in partnership with the Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO), has unveiled plans for the fourth edition of Botswana Sustainability Week (BSW26), scheduled for 21–23 October 2026 at Sedia Hotel in Maun. Held under the theme “The Business of Sustainability: Activating Private Sector Leadership to Drive Botswana’s Next Growth Economy,” the event will spotlight the role of private sector leadership in advancing sustainable development and unlocking new opportunities for economic growth.

In her welcome remarks, Ms. Tebogo Ramakgathi, BTO Acting Executive Manager – Marketing, reaffirmed the Organisation’s commitment to the initiative, noting that sustainability is central to the long-term competitiveness of Botswana’s tourism sector. She highlighted that the platform aligns with Botswana’s ambition to strengthen its position as a leading Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) destination, while promoting responsible tourism and economic diversification.

Ms. Lindiwe Modise, Managing Director of Green Loop Foundation, outlined the event’s preparations and implementation priorities, highlighting the importance of environmentally conscious event infrastructure. She noted that local operators in Maun had been engaged to support the development of eco-friendly event structures and set-ups, ensuring that sustainability principles are reflected in the delivery of the event while creating opportunities for local participation

Beyond the three-day event, BSW26 places emphasis on practical outcomes that extend into communities. The presentation identifies solar-powered community water standpipes in the Ngamiland region as the BSW26 legacy project, alongside progress updates on the 2025 Tree Pledge Initiative and renewed commitments under the One Million Tree Campaign.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mokganedi Ntana, BTO Environment and Eco-Certification Manager, emphasised that sustainability is essential to tourism competitiveness, conservation and community livelihoods, highlighting BTO’s work through the Botswana Ecotourism Certification System (BECS).

In his closing remarks, Mr. Ogopotse Baoleki, Acting Chief Executive Officer of BTO, called for stronger partnerships to advance responsible business practices, protect Botswana’s natural heritage and create lasting economic opportunities.
