After hosting a successful World Travel Market Africa (WTM 2018) this year, organizers are looking to notch it even higher next year with new innovations set to take centre stage at activities planned.

In an exclusive interview with VoyagesAfriq, Megan Oberholzer Portfolio General Manager for WTM Africa said the 2018 show was phenomenal. The event saw a 19 percent increase in overall attendance, 10 percent increase in buyers and with over seven hundred exhibitors. Oberholzer said they look forward to increasing the numbers in the coming year.

“We have multiple innovations like the investment summit which is going to bring together key industry influencers from around the continent.”

According to her, the key thing about the summit is how it seeks to address and increase access into and out of Africa and the infrastructures needed in aid seamless travel within the continent.

“So the key things for us, is access to good roads, looking at the dissemination plans that we are putting in place in terms of the water crises in Cape Town as well as other peripherals adding to the big picture.”

A masterclass for the African travel and tourism industry is planned as part of new additions to the 2019 event.

Highlighting on what to look out for in 2019, she stated the Africa travel and tourism awards will be kicking off its 2019 tour where people can apply, put forward their entry and select nominees.

“As a continent, Africa has so many successes that we want to celebrate,” she said of the awards.
