In their continuous effort to whip up interest in domestic tourism, the Tour Operators Union of Ghana (TOUGHA) have embarked on a familiarization tour of the Volta and Oti Regions.

From August 26 -29, members of TOUGHA, representatives from the Ghana Tourism Authority and the media visited several tourist sites and attractions in the two regions. They included: Tafi-Atome Monkey Sanctuary, Liati Wote where they hiked around Tagbo Falls and viewed Afadjato.

The group also visited Kyabobo National Park, Shiare Hanging Village, Kpetoe Kente Village, Fort Prinzenstein in Keta, Ave Crocodile Resort in Akatsi and many other attractions in the regions.

TOUGHA President who led the delegation, Mrs. Alisa Osei-Asamoah said she felt delighted to lead the team to explore the tourism offerings of the regions.

“From our tour, it’s become obvious that there are lot of tourism treasures we haven’t discovered. There is so much more to these regions in terms of their tourism offering that people should see and experience. With our visits to the many attractions, I hope we are able to draw tourists through our packages and promotions,” she said.

Mrs. Osei-Asamoah said, TOUGHA will prepare a report of their tour and present it to the Ghana Tourism Authority to bring their attention to the challenges that need to be addressed in order to draw visitors and tourists to the sites and attractions in the regions.

The Tour Operators Union of Ghana is key stakeholder in government’s renewed commitment to encourage domestic tourism and has been part of several initiatives in this regard.
