The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has welcomed members of the tourism fraternity to this year’s FITUR Tourism International Fair. In a jointly organised welcome cocktail with the Ministry of Tourism of Spain at the Prado Museum, leaders and industry heavyweights exchanged and discussed the progress of the global tourism industry.

The hosts, Secretary General of UNWTO Zurab Pololikashvli and Spain’s Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce Marato Reyes thanked the guests for making time to attend this year’s edition of FITUR.

“I am very happy to meet again with friends old and new, all of us united around a shared vision for tourism, a sector that means so much for us and for the world,” Pololikashvili said.

He added that FITUR provides a good platform to harness the power of both the public and private sectors.

The Secretary-General maintained, “FITUR meets at the beginning of the new year to share new ideas and bold plans.

It is a place to connect the power of the public sector with the energy and reach of the private sector. And UNWTO can serve as the bridge between the two.

We are your voice at the global level, including at the United Nations. Only by working together can we meet the biggest challenges facing the sector right now.

And only by working together can we deliver on tourism’s massive potential to drive positive change and growth.”

FITUR 2023 is being held from 18 – 22 January and has drawn thousands of participants to Madrid from across the world to set the next tourism agenda
