The first edition of the Hospitality Awards Ghana (HAG) came off last Friday, July 26th, 2019 at Alisa Hotel, Accra at an event which recognised and rewarded individuals and entities who are excelling in the local hospitality industry.

Unlike, traditional awards scheme of this kind, HAG celebrates staff members of hospitality establishments whose hard work and dedication are responsible for their growth and successes.

The event brought together a host of industry players including top managers, owners and staff of hotels who were serenaded to a night of music by of Ghana’s finest Highlife musician, Akwaboah. Other acts on the bill were Elorm, Camidoh and Mr. Drew with on-air personality, Regina Van Helvert compering the event.

Among the high profile personalities that attended the event were the President of Ghana Hoteliers Association, Dr. Edward Ackah Nyameke Jnr, who in his speech urged government to look at lightening the burden of the many taxes that the industry is saddled with. He said hotels in the country are relatively expensive, hence making them less competitive with others within the sub-region all because of the high taxes levied on them.

He charged members of the hotels association to work together to push for reduction and removal of some of these taxes in other to make them competitive and keep them in business.

He praised the team from 90 Degrees Ghana, organisers of the event for the initiative to recognise the staff of hotels whose efforts are usually overlooked and unrewarded.
